USA Football Heads Up Certification — Step-by-Step Guide

Every volunteer on the field or sideline must complete USA Football Heads Up certification before the season begins. The training is free — do not pay. Here's how to complete it.

Step 1 — Create or log in to your USA Football account

Go to usafootball.com and log in or create a free account.

When associating with a club, search for and select Braddock Road Football. Do not select "BRYC Football" — that is a different organization.

Step 2 — Get your free promo code

Email football@bryc.org to request your free certification promo code. BRYC covers the cost — the standard fee is $15 but you will pay $0 with the code.

Step 3 — Complete the Tackle certification

Go to footballdevelopment.com/courses-certifications

  • Select Learn More under Tackle Certification
  • Select Get Certified
  • Click Continue to Payment
  • Enter your promo code in the "Promo Code (Optional)" field and click Update Price — the total should drop to $0
  • Select Sign Up for Course and complete all assigned modules

Step 4 — Save your certificate

Once complete, go to the Certifications & Courses tab and download your certificate. Note the certificate number in the bottom right corner — you'll need it in Steps 5 and 6.

Step 5 — Register with BRYC

Register here as a Coach or Volunteer

  • Log in to your Demosphere account
  • Select Coaches Training > Tackle 2026
  • Select Team Staff / Volunteer
  • Complete and submit the form

Step 6 — Register with NVYFL

Register with NVYFL here

  • Complete your NVYFL coach registration through the league portal
  • You will need your USA Football certificate number to complete this step
  • NVYFL registration is required for all coaches and sideline volunteers regardless of role

Step 7 — You're in

That's it. Now show up and watch our young athletes grow over the next 10–12 weeks.

Beyond Certification — Glazier Clinics

BRYC coaches are also invited to attend the Glazier Clinics, an intensive coaching workshop held over a long weekend each March. Glazier brings together coaches from youth, high school, college, and professional levels for football education that goes well beyond the basics. In 2024, ten BRYC coaching volunteers attended. It's one of the best development opportunities available to volunteer coaches anywhere in the region.

Contact football@bryc.org to learn more about attending.

Our Coaching Philosophy

At Braddock Road, we are Player-First. Player safety — physical, mental, and developmental — drives every coaching decision. We want to teach our athletes how to compete and win, but never at the expense of their health, ethics, or future.
